Bust out your natal chart and let’s ground into this moment.

We have officially entered Fall or Autumn, and the dark half of the year.

Fall is a 3 month season focused on two important pieces of magick: calling in the results or effects of our work on the Wheel so far, and shape-shifting into the Self we inhabit during the cold and dark part of the year. Fall is a season of claiming our capacity to manifest, and the work it takes to stay ethically connected to community while we prepare for the death/rebirth work of Fall and Winter.

Fall contains the Sabbats Mabon/Fall Equinox and Samhain. These Sabbats get us focused on the process of distributing the results of the stuff we produced or oversaw while moving through the brightest part of the year, settling debts, external and internal, and preparing for the Underworld Journey. These Sabbats get us focused on the process of continuing, maintaining, and taking responsibility for sharing what we’ve been working on so far. We also are invited to come back to a spiritual balance, and get comfortable with what and who we want to partner with.

In Mabon, we receive a sense of what community needs, and we prepare the environments we will do our Work in.

Every year the Sun will pass through Libra.

Nearly every year we will have a New Moon in Libra at some point, and a Full Moon in Aries. Look at your natal chart and find Libra. Look at the house or houses connected to this sign. The house/s the Sun is passing through is where, in your life, you might experience extra amounts of Mabon season work, issues, or ideas. And this will be true for you every year.

-The Sun represents our fundamental sense of self, our central purpose, and our creative potential.
Libra represents our need and capacity to cooperate with others and to create beauty, harmony, and balance.

So, in general, everyone may find themselves more affable, charming, and tasteful during Mabon season. The New Moon in Libra will help initiate some part of our Mabon work by stirring up a desire for more partner-oriented activities, and the Full Moon in Aries will help us resolve some part of our Mabon work by helping us move through some of our issues around independence.

So, what’s happening in 2023 astrology when the Sun enters Libra?…

This year, the Sun is opposite Neptune in Pisces and trine Pluto in Capricorn as it heads into Libra.

-The Sun represents our fundamental sense of self, our central purpose, and our creative potential.
Neptune represents our capacity to transcend the Self and unite with the cosmos.
Pluto represents our capacity to transform and renew ourselves, and wield power.

Neptune was square to the Sun as we entered Summer. Now, the oceanic planet is opposed to the Sun as we enter Fall. The Sun will square Neptune again when we move into Winter in a few months. It seems this whole year we will be running up against Neptune and its foggy, illusory, confusion-filled antics.

The Pluto trine supports the weirdo-vibes from Neptune as well as our descent into the dark underworld journey. Spooky, and on-brand.

Pisces is a mutable sign that ultimately wants to be dedicated to achievement of an ideal or vision. Capricorn is a cardinal sign focused on creating structure and social achievement. So, part of our Mabon work is reconciling with our desire to drift off into fantasy or daydreams when reality and the maintenance of reality just feels too hard. But, sticking with our daily check ins is really going to help. Perhaps part of the Harvest for us in Mabon is recognizing how our smaller daily routines, and simpler projects, could be transformed into something bigger that sustains long-lasting efforts and larger projects.

At the moment the Sun enters Libra this year it makes a square to the Waxing Moon in Capricorn.

-The Moon represents our emotions, feelings, and daily habits.

Squares point out places where stuff is not working, but, with some effort could be amazing. Our Sun/Moon square says we may have to work at instilling and maintaining our daily routines as the energy of seasonal shifting swirls around us. But if we can stick with them, it will pay off.

This year, Mabon season may have an extra element of manifestation magick and majesty. This is really lovely (even with the square,) as Mabon truly is a Sabbat focused on production and abundance on the material plane. All forms of ritual, spell crafting, and magicks focused on order, hard work, frugalness, responsibility, systems, and recognition are especially potent this year throughout Mabon. This is another great time to check your trajectory for the next few months and make sure you are pointing in the direction you want to be headed. Or, utilize this “real-talk” Capricorn influence to make the needed corrections.

While the Sun is passing through Libra, it is under the rulership of Venus.
What’s going on with that planet?

We find Venus in Leo, behind the Sun, still meandering through its retrograde shadow. While here, it’s engaged in several conversations: trine Chiron Rx in Aries, sextile Mars in Libra, square Jupiter Rx and Uranus Rx in Taurus, and last but not least, trine the North Node in Aries
